Start With Why – by Simon Sinek
How can you not be inspired by Simon Sinek’s TED Talk about starting with Why? If you were really moved by it, then you may enjoy his related book, Start With Why. He explains more in-depth the concepts mentioned in his talk.
Sinek starts with a fundamental question: Why are some people and organizations more innovative, more influential, and more profitable than others? Why do some command greater loyalty from customers and employees alike? Even among the successful, why are so few able to repeat their success over and over?
People won’t truly buy into a product, service, movement, or idea until they understand the why behind it.
Start with Why shows that the leaders who’ve had the greatest influence in the world all think, act, and communicate the same way – and it’s the opposite of what everyone else does. Sinek calls this powerful idea The Golden Circle, and it provides a framework upon which organizations can be built, movements can be led, and people can be inspired. And it all starts with why.
Warning: if you are not a fan of a book with strong examples that are repeated in multiple contexts (especially after watching the TED Talk), this may not be for you. I personally enjoyed all the stories he told, and hearing them again in longer form. If anything, it helps the information sink in. Take a look at the reviews (both good and bad), and decide for yourself!
It’s available in hardcover, paperback, on Kindle, and Start With Why Audible.

Building a Story Brand – by Donald Miller
This book will transform the way you talk about who you are, what you do, and the unique value you bring to your customers. It’s one way to create a compelling story line for your brand that brings the customer into your world as the Hero (making you the Guide). Most businesses do the opposite, and wonder why they have trouble with growing their business.
Donald Miller’s methodology in Building a Story Brand teaches the seven universal story points all humans respond to, the real reason customers make purchases, how to simplify a brand message so people understand it, and how to create the most effective messaging for websites, brochures, and social media.
The key is to create very clear and simplified messaging that captures your customer’s attention, not loses it. This book will show you how.
It’s available in hardcover, paperback, on Kindle, and on Audible.
